Frequently asked questions

What does a Taster Course involve? A Taster Course gives you an ideal opportunity to experience a course you are interested in to see if you like it. You will stay on campus and participate in a series of informative classroom based and practical activities, where you will meet lots of forward thinking students just like you and most importantly – have fun!

There is an optional interview day you can attend on day three following on from the Taster Course. Details are sent out on receipt of your taster application form.

How old do I need to be to attend a Taster Course? You need to be in Year 11 to attend a taster.

How much does it cost? The cost of attending a taster is only £55. This includes accommodation and breakfast, lunch and dinner during your stay. Your meals will be taken in the College refectory. If you have any dietary requirements please notify us in advance. You will require money if you want any extras such as snacks or additional drinks in the evenings. The Taster
Course fee is refundable after completion of the first year of your full-time studies with us.

What do I need to bring? You will need to bring a change of clothes to cover the duration of your stay, your night clothes, wash kit, alarm clock, pen and notepad. You should also bring suitable warm and waterproof outdoor clothing as you may be outside for some practical activities. For a comprehensive list of items by taster course, click here.

Rooms are not supplied with bedding; therefore you will need to bring a pillow, duvet (or sleeping bag) plus bed linen with you. You will also need to bring your own towels.

What will my accommodation be like? You will stay in a single en-suite bedroom. If you are coming with a friend and wish to be next door to each other, please let us know at least a week prior to the course commencing and we will do our best to accommodate you in neighbouring rooms.

What time do I need to arrive/leave on my Taster Course? Please arrive between 8.30am and 9.00am on the first day of your Taster Course (signs on campus will direct you where to go). The first thing to do is register and pick up your accommodation keys so you can leave your bags and bedding in your room. You will then return to the College refectory for 9.30am where you will receive a welcome and brief introduction prior to going to the relevant academic department. Parents are advised to stay for the introduction as important information will be given. If you are not attending an interview on day three of your Taster Course, then you will need to be collected in the evening of day two of your Taster Course and we ask that you vacate campus by 7pm, after returning your room key to the Duty Warden and signing out in Student Services.
