Lecturers and Equitation Instructors

Carl Hester

Carl has amassed a record 38 national dressage titles and has been National Champion four times. He has competed in three Olympic Games, one World Equestrian Games, four European Championships and has reached one World Cup Dressage Final. Carl and Escapado were the highest placed British combination at the 2004 Athens Olympics as well as the 2005 European Championships, where they finished sixth with a personal record-score.

Jeremy Michaels, Equitation Director

Jeremy is a Fellow of the British Horse Society, a Chief Assessor for the BHS and he holds a MEd. He is also one of the Equine Academy coaches at Hartpury College. During his equine career he has evented to Intermediate level, show jumped to Foxhunter and competed to Prix St Georges in dressage. Time permitting, he teaches overseas in countries such as China and the USA. He enjoys teaching riders of all levels. He is an equestrian author, an expert witness and is the presenter of the BHS Examination series as well as several training videos.

Kate Holt

Kate Holt BSc (Hons), BHSIT, BHSISM is the acting Academic Manager for Equine Further Education.

Kate completed her BSc in June 1999 and currently lectures in Animal Science and Equine Rehabilitation and Therapy on the National Diploma course. She is also course tutor for the second year National Diploma students. Kate and her horse compete at affiliated dressage and have also evented and team chased.

Peta Roberts, FBHS

Peta Roberts is a fellow of the British Horse Society, having passed the show-jumping specialist section and is also a BHS Chief Examiner. .Peta has three-day evented at international level, show-jumped at Grade A, competed dressage to Medium level and produced show horses to win at The Horse of the Year Show, both astride and side-saddle. .Peta teaches all aspects of equitation, prepares students for examinations and helps those interested in learning side-saddle.

Clare Farmer

Clare holds the BHS II qualification.

She is NDHM 1st year tutor, Lecturers in Theory of Equitation, Work Related Experience in the horse sector and also teaches practical riding. She has free-lance ridden and groomed for various yards and has run her own livery and schooling yard and still regularly competes when possible, her main interests are Show jumping and Eventing.

Liz Parsons

Liz holds the BHSII and BHS-SM certificates and has taught for a number of years in training establishments and colleges. She is an Equine Lecturer and NAHM / NCHM2 Course Tutor. Liz has groomed both show-jumpers and eventers internationally, including attending two Olympic Games, working for Mark Todd for two seasons. Liz is a BSJA judge and enjoys jumping her own horse when time allows.

Hannah Bishop

Hannah holds the BHS IT, ISM and UKCC level 2 and has worked at various competition yards. She is an Equine Lecturer, Course Tutor for NDHM Yr 2 Hannah also holds a BSc in Equine Science. Hannah has groomed for both eventing and dressage and enjoys competing and hunting.

Becky Coleman

Becky is a BHSI registered instructor, curriculum leader equine and teaches on many of the equine courses at the College.

Rachael Cook

Rachael holds the BHSAI, the Intermediate Stable Managers qualifications and is a qualified Riding and Road Safety trainer. As well as teaching, she is also involved with running and organising competitions, pony club events and examinations. Instruction and teaching is Rachael’s greatest passion and she has successfully trained many students towards their BHS examinations.

Jane Davis

Jane holds the BHSI and has a wealth of riding experience which includes producing and competing top class horses; highlights include competing at Blenheim Horse Trials in 2000 and 2001. Jane has taught at Hartpury for 6 years and is an NVQ assessor.

Stef Eardley

In her 15 year riding career Steph has been a working pupil for Charlotte Bathe and head girl for Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks; she therefore has a wealth of experience working with elite competition horses, hunters and race horses. Steph’s qualifications include the BHSAI, IntSM and an MSc in Equine Science. She has competition experience in all three disciplines and currently successfully competes in dressage at Intermediare 1 level and trains at Grand Prix level.

Sam Goss

Sam has 25 years experience within the Equine Industry and is a BHSI. She has worked in several different spheres of the equestrian industry; eventing to Intermediate level and competing at Medium level dressage. She has worked with international students from China, France, Oman and the USA.

Kelly Jewell

After an absence from riding for 9 years, Kelly decided to rekindle her passion and come to Hartpury College. In the last 3 years whilst studying for her degree, she has successfully competed up to Elementary level dressage, BSJA and is also currently Pre-Novice eventing. Kelly is a full-time Hartpury instructor, holds her BHSAI and is working towards her Stage 4 and an MSc Equine Science.

Emelye Trew

Emelye holds the BHSAI stable management and UKCC level 2 in Equine. She has successfully competed at affiliated eventing and show jumping; training with international US event rider Cindy Rawson.

Becci Trower

Becci is Chief Instructor here at Hartpury and oversees the riding for all equine students. She holds the BHSI, is a List 3 dressage judge and regional trainer, an assistant course designer for the BSJA, an examiner for the pony club and a master judge for British Riding Clubs. Becci has competed up to Advanced Medium level dressage and teaches competition riders and BHS exam students.

Sally Williams

Sally has competed in all three disciplines to a high level. She is a chief assessor with the BHS, assessing up to BHSI standard. Sally has held her BHSI since 1984, features on the British Dressage trainers list and teaches regularly on BYRDS Clinics.

Jo Winfield - Competition Tutor

Jo is a Fellow of the BHS and has been at Hartpury College since 1994, dividing her time between lecturing across many of the Higher Education programmes and offering training for DIY students. Jo’s CV is impressive; she delivers clinics throughout the UK, in Jersey and Hong Kong. Jo is also a BD judge, examiner for the BHS, accredited trainer for British Eventing and a BD trainer. She currently competes at 1.20m-1.30m show jumping.
