Instructors
Kate Holt, BHSII
Kate holds a Masters Degree in Education, British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor (BHSII) is the Subject Leader for Equine Further Education and has worked at Hartpury College for a number of years.
Kate manages the academic progress and achievement for all of the F.E. Equine students. In addition to teaching a variety of units to FE students she is also an Internal Verifier for the NVQ Equine and Animal Care programmes.
Becci Trower, BHSI
Becci is the Chief Instructor here at Hartpury and oversees the riding for all equine students. She holds the British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI), UKCC level 3 and is a List 3 dressage judge and regional trainer, an assistant course designer for the BSJA, an examiner for the pony club and a master judge for British Riding Clubs. She also holds the Certificate in Education. Becci has competed up to Advanced Medium level dressage and teaches competition riders and British Horse Society exam students.
Peta Roberts, FBHS
Peta Roberts is a Fellow of the British Horse Society, having passed the show jumping specialist section. Peta has evented internationally, show jumped at Grade A level and produced show horses to win at The Horse of the Year Show, both astride and side saddle. Peta teaches all aspects of equitation, prepares students for examinations and is a British Society Chief Examiner. Peta also holds the Certificate in Education.
Jane Davis, BHSI
Jane holds the British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI) qualification along with the Certificate in Education and has a wealth of riding experience which includes producing and competing top class horses; highlights include competing at Blenheim Horse Trials in 2000 and 2001. Jane has taught at Hartpury for a number of years and is an NVQ assessor.
Sally Williams, BHSI
Sally has competed in all three disciplines to a high level. She is a chief assessor with the British Horse Society, assessing up to British Horse Society Instructor standard. Sally has held her British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI) since 1984, she features on the British Dressage trainers list and teaches regularly at British Young Riders Dressage Squad (BYRDS) clinics.
Liz Parsons, BHSII-SM
Liz holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science and Management, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor (BHSII) and the British Horse Society Stable Managers (BHSSM) qualifications and has taught for a number of years in both training establishments and colleges. She is an Equine Lecturer and the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma Course Tutor and Extended Diploma Year one Course Tutor. Liz has groomed for both show-jumpers and eventers internationally, including two Olympic Games and both World and European Championships, working for Mark Todd for two seasons. Liz is a British Showjumping 2* judge, regularly judging here at the College.
Clare Farmer, BHSII-SM
Clare holds the British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor (BHSII) and British Horse Society Stable Managers qualification and a Certificate in Education. She is an Extended Diploma in Horse Management Business 1st year tutor, she lecturers in Principles of Equitation, Work Related Experience in the land-based sector, The Horse Racing Industry and also teaches practical riding. She has free-lance ridden and groomed for various yards and has run her own livery and schooling business and still regularly competes when possible, her main interests are Show jumping and Eventing. Clare also manages the Further Education Grooms Academy.
Hannah Bishop, BHSITT-ISM
Hannah holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science, Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Qualified Teacher in Learning and Skills (QTLS), British Horse Society Intermediate Teaching Test, Intermediate Stable Manager and the UKCC level 3 qualification. She is an Equine Lecturer, Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Business Yr 2 and Instructor. Hannah teaches Event Management, all aspects of Equitation and Horse Management. Hannah has worked at various competition yards and groomed for both eventing and dressage. Hannah has successfully trained many students towards their British Horse Society and Pony Club examinations. She successfully runs shows for the further education students and coordinates the selection and training of the Inter College Competition Team.
Emelye Trew, BHSAI-ISM
Emelye holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Qualified Teacher in Learning and Skills (QTLS), British Horse Society Assistant Instructor (BHSAI), British Horse Society Intermediate Stable Manager, UKCC level 2 Coach and is a qualified Riding and Road Safety trainer. Emelye is also a qualified Equine Sports massage therapist, training with physioherapist Mary Bromiley. At Hartpury College Emelye is an Equine Lecturer and a Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Yr 1. She has successfully competed at affiliated eventing and show jumping; training with international US event rider Cindy Rawson. Emelye likes to compete in triathlons in her spare time.
Rachael Cook, BHSAI-ISM
Rachael holds a BSc (Hons) Equine Science, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, British Horse Society Assistant Instructor (BHSAI), British Horse Society Intermediate Stable Managers qualifications and is a qualified Riding and Road Safety trainer. As well as teaching, she is also involved with running and organising competitions, pony club events and examinations. Instruction and teaching is Rachael’s greatest passion and she has successfully trained many students towards their British Horse Society examinations.
Emma Wilson
Emma holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science, Postgraduate Certificate in Education and is a qualified Artificial Insemination (AI) technician. She has worked at several thoroughbred and warmblood studs before coming to work at Hartpury as a stud lecturer. Emma is an Equine Lecturer and a Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Breeding Yr 1. She teaches across all aspects of stud management.
Angela Kearns, BHSPT-ISM
Angela holds an MSc in Equine Science, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, British Horse Society Preliminary Teaching Test, British Horse Society Intermediate Stable Manager. She has worked in the financial and pharmaceutical industries and is currently involved in teaching young riders. Angela is an Equine Lecturer and a Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Yr 2 and her area of specialism is in equine physiology and behaviour and welfare. Angela likes to compete in unaffiliated dressage competitions in her spare time.
Jen Mellows, BHSII
Jen holds a BA (Hons) in Equine Business Management, a Masters degree in Education and is a British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor (BHSII). Jen has competed both in dressage and eventing, before setting up her own yard. Jen has worked as an Equine Veterinary Assistant and owned a racing stud for 10 years. Jen is an Equine Lecturer and a Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Yr 2 and her area of specialism is business.
Sue McEwan, BHSPT-ISM
Sue holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Masters Degree in Education, British Horse Society Preliminary Teaching Test, British Horse Society Intermediate Stable Manager. She is in charge of pastoral care for all FE equine students. Sue has worked in the equine industry as a riding instructor, groom and a yard manager. Sue is an Equine Lecturer and a Course Tutor for the Extended Diploma in Horse Management Yr 1 and her area of specialism is stable management and equine fitness and training. Sue is also a college warden and frequently organises fitness training for the students. Sue is a very successful triathlete.
