The lake was constructed in 1991 as a result of partially felling Rook Wood and excavating the area. The lake originally had one island. It was recently drained because of oxygen problems, the lake was deepened and an additional, larger island was constructed to encourage nesting birds.

Mute swans have successfully bred on this island. In the autumn and Winter a range of birds can be seen on the lake including, tufted ducks, mute swans, moorhens, coots, mallard, Canada geese, teal, shelduck, heron and cormorants.  A kingfisher has also been spotted.  These birds can be viewed from the bird hide.  The lake is stocked with trout and fished by a syndicate.
