Mansfield and Williams selected for Welsh Rowing
Team
Hartpury Rowing ‘Start’ Academy AASE students Hannah Mansfield and Lauren Williams have been selected to represent Wales at the upcoming Home International Regatta, which takes place in Cardiff on 21st July. The A level students will be competing together in the Women’s Junior Double Scull and will also team up with rowers from Shrewsbury and Sudbury to race in the Junior Women’s Quad Scull. The Home International is an annual event which sees selected crews from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland compete in a number of rowing classes, in both Senior and Junior (under 18) events.
Hannah and Lauren’s selection is the first International representation achieved by the Rowing Academy, which was launched in September 2010. Mansfield, one of the Rowing Academy’s original intake, was selected to come to the College via the GB Rowing Team ‘Start’ programme. Having never set foot in a boat prior to coming to Hartpury, this achievement comes less than two years after taking up the sport. Williams joined the Rowing Academy in September 2011 having learned to row previously at Gloucester Rowing Club. This selection will help to further strengthen the link between the Hartpury Rowing Academy and Gloucester RC.
