Successful Day for Hartpury Academy Golfers at BCS Regional Qualifiers

Hartpury’s Junior golfers produced very good golf at the West Midlands BCS Regional Qualifiers at Astbury Hall Golf Club, qualifying for the National Finals in March.  The players were competing for the top four places in both the men’s and women’s categories. They played on a golf course that was in outstanding condition for the time of year, particularly the greens which were lightning fast and undulating, leading to many of the players six and even eight putting on some of the holes.

With ten schools and colleges from the West Midlands area competing in the event, the men’s category was dominated by Hartpury golfers.  First year AASE students Connor Chant, Tom Wright and Ollie Dickson and second year AASE student Josh Davies claimed the top four places, with second year AASE student Matt Vigurs and first year AASE student Ryan Pope as first and second reserves respectively.

In the women’s category, first year AASE student Abi Kennedy qualified in second place but second year EDSG student Vicky Watkins agonisingly missed out on the fourth and final qualifying position on the back nine holes.

The five Hartpury students will now form part of the West Midlands team at the National Finals in March, which will this year be held at the prestigious British Open venue, Royal Birkdale, and will be an excellent experience for all of them.
