Hartpury Golfers Produce Outstanding Display to Win Second Round of ICT

Hartpury Golf Academy’s Junior 1st Team produced a second outstanding performance in a week to win the second round of the Intercollegiate Tour (ICT) at Tewkesbury Park Golf Club.  The eight man team was led out by Ryan Pope, who set the tone for the day with a very good one under par round of 72, which was made even more impressive by the fact that he took a triple bogey eight at the par 5 twelfth hole.  The second of the six scores to count towards the team total was returned by Connor Chant. He carded a joint best of the day round of 71 and meant that he had the lowest gross for the second week in succession after last week’s British Schools and Colleges Tour (BSCT) victory at Enmore Park.

The third and fourth counting scores came from James Dobbs and Ollie Dickson, who returned very solid rounds of 73 and 74 respectively. This meant that they finished fourth and fifth in the Individual Order of Merit, gaining valuable points towards qualifying for the finals in May.  The fifth counting score was returned by second year AASE student, Matt Vigurs, who equalled Connor Chant’s excellent 71 and continued his consistent form in all competitions.  The final score to count towards the team score came from another second year AASE student, Josh Davies, who was playing in the final group and returned a very respectable score of 76.

It meant that the combined team total for the six counting scores was an outstanding one under par 437, beating second placed Writhlington School by 27 shots and Filton by 30 shots.  Having won the second round of the BSCT the previous week by 18 shots, the team are showing their quality and, despite a poor first round in the ICT, are now only 2 points behind Filton with three rounds remaining.

The 2nd Team, unfortunately, didn’t perform to their potential but there were still some very good performances, notably first year AASE students Tom Wright, Ryan Wheeler and Connor Parry who returned scores of 76, 77 and 77 respectively and are knocking on the door of the 1st Team for the next round at The Bristol Golf Club.
