Rowing Academy Make Promising Start To Summer Regatta Season

On Sunday 6th May, three Rowing Academy students travelled to Dorney Lake, venue for the 2012 Olympic Rowing events later this summer, to take part in the Wallingford Regatta. This event is one of the first multi-lane events of the summer regatta season, and is a chance for crews to test their speed against national level opposition.

In the Under 18 double sculls event, A Level students Hannah Mansfield and Lauren Williams had two good races, winning their semi-final and placing third in the final. Both are hoping for selection for the Wales Junior Team later this summer, this result is a promising start in the pursuit of that goal.

In the Women’s Intermediate Event Sarah Bonar also raced well, winning her semi-final and placing second in the final. This provides further good racing experience for Sarah, who will be looking to gain a place with the GB Junior Team later this summer.

Unfortunately the planned racing on the same weekend for this year’s new intake at Evesham Regatta was cancelled due to a flooded river. They will have another opportunity to race at an event in Monmouth in a couple of weeks’ time.

The next major event on the calendar for the Rowing Academy is the National Schools Regatta in early June.
