Junior Golf Academy

The Junior Academy is made up of players aged between 16 – 19 years who study on an FE programme.  The main academic programme chosen by the vast majority of the players in the Junior Academy is the Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence in Golf) but we’ve also currently got players who study A-levels as well.

The Junior Academy are the current British Schools Champions, having won the tournament at The Shire Golf Club in May 2011.  In 2011-12, we will have 2 teams competing in the British Schools and Colleges Golf Tour, as we begin the defense of our title and we will also have 2 teams entered in the Intercollegiate Tour, which is another National College League of high quality.

Both competitions are played on a round-robin basis and the best gross andnett scores from the team are combined to decide the results.  The winners of the gross and nett table at the end of the round-robin series of matches qualify for the National Grand Finals to decide the National Champions.

Within this format, there is also an Individual Order of Merit in both competitions and players gain points during each round if they finish in the top 20.  The top 10 players in each region then qualify for the  Players Championships, where they have the opportunity to become the Individual National Champions.  This high level of competition during the winter is an excellent way for our Junior Academy players to remain competitive during the off-season and gives them a very good benchmark of their current standard.
