Modern
Pentathlon
Pentathlon GB and Hartpury College have formed a unique partnership to support the Pentathlon GB World Class Development Programme, with the aim of identifying and developing potential young modern pentathletes.
As part of this academy, we are proposing to offer the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) to students training with the Pentathlon GB National Development Coach and Academy Director, Bernie Moss. Students will need to satisfy the athletic criteria before being invited onto the programme.
The programme will consist of three different elements which forms the AASE framework. The students will need to complete all three parts of the framework to be awarded their apprenticeship. The three elements are:
- The technical certificate which in this case is likely to be either the ND in Sport Performance and Excellence or an A Level programme.
- The NVQ Level 3 in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance.
- Functional Skills at level 2. Only relevant if the students do not already possess GCSE’s in English and Maths at C or above.
The aim of the AASE programme will be to identify a minimum of 12 hours specific sports coaching and development each week with our coaches, conditioners and physiotherapists. A programme will be designed around the hours that the students can be released from their normal timetable.
Athletic Eligibility Criteria
Students must be currently competing in Modern Pentathlon and demonstrate potential in the physical events. Eligible athletes should have a combined running and swimming ability in excess of 2200 points (200m Swim & 3000m Run) using the 2008 UIPM Competition Rules. Students will need to achieve the relevant entry criteria to study on a Level 3 ND programme.
