Overview
The Netball Academy was started in 2002 and has continually developed with the goal of being as great a success as the other Hartpury College Academies. Notable achievements to date include: the Junior Academy being crowned 2008/2009 English Colleges League Champions; they now play in the National BCS Superleague, British Colleges National Championship winners in 2011 and qualified unbeaten for the West Mid Region. They have made National Schools Finals for the 3rd year running, they are County Schools Champions 3 years running 2008-2011; and most recently South West Regional Champions in the U19 Schools Competition.
The Netball Academy is split into Junior and Senior sections. The Junior section sits under the Hartpury Sport banner and is an Academy. The Senior section sits under the recreational banner.
All members of the Academy are enrolled on full time academic courses and benefit from the outstanding training facilities at the college. The facilities include an indoor sports hall for training and matches; a fitness suite and gymnasium within the Sports Academy; a massage/rehabilitation room for treating sport injuries and gaining help and advice; ice baths, a spa pool and a human performance analysis laboratory.
Netball training sessions are interspersed with lessons and lectures during the academic year, allowing the players to develop their netball abilities and hone their educational talents.
The Academy has links with many Gloucestershire County Clubs including Hucclecote Netball Club who have representative teams at every level up to the National Premier League. Hartpury also has a link with the Regional Talent and Performance Centre which is involved in the England Excel Pathway and forging links with National Talent League Teams. It is links such as these which will push Academy Netballers to their full potential and will gain additional valuable coaching and match experience as well as creating opportunities to display their skills to England Scouts.
