Scholarships and Bursaries available at Hartpury
We pride ourselves on our student support and equality of opportunity and provide a wide range of generous scholarships and bursaries to ensure that if you qualify for a place you will not be deterred by financial concerns. There are a range of schemes available, which are listed below:
UWE Bursary
New students with an annual household income of £25,000 or less could receive £1,000 per year. Alternatively, students entering UWE on the basis of a recognised Access to HE certificate could be entitled to a bursary of £1,000 regardless of household income.
In addition, full time UK undergraduate students who have been in local authority care may be eligible for a Care Leavers Bursary of £1,000.

Gloucestershire NFU Farmers Trust (Higher Education)
Five bursaries of £1,000 funded by the Gloucestershire NFU Farmer’s Trust are available to contribute towards the cost of residential accommodation at Hartpury College. The award is means tested and available to students from local farming families with an annual household income of less than £20,000.
In order to apply for this bursary you must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
1.
- Be enrolled as a 1st year student at Hartpury College, studying a full-time Higher Education Foundation Degree or BSc course in Agriculture or a related subject
- Be residential at the college
- Have had a Gloucestershire postcode for at least 3 years prior to enrolment
2. Or
- Be the son/daughter of a Gloucestershire farmer enrolled on any Higher Education course at Hartpury College
- Be residential at the college
If you are successful in your application, any amount awarded to you will be used to assist in the payment of your college residential fees/

International Alumni Scholarship
Hartpury College is pleased to announce a new initiative for current international students wishing to progress from an Undergraduate to Postgraduate full time programme. In the present economic climate we feel it important to assist students and hope this scholarship will encourage you to stay on in education, here at Hartpury.
The Scholarship is worth £1323 and reduces the Postgraduate tuition fee by 15% which will automatically be deducted from source.
Worshipful Company of Farmers (Further Education)
Students studying Agriculture at Hartpury can complete an application form on why they want extra funding and applications are then shortlisted. Interviews then take place before a decision is made on which students are awarded the funding. (This scholarship information is subject to change)

Madresfield Travel Scholarship (Further and Higher Education)
For students thinking about travelling overseas for work experience, The Gloucestershire Root, Fruit and Grain Society are offering a fantastic opportunity for students to travel and broaden their horizons by paying travel costs up to the value of £1,000, to someone aged 17-25 currently studying Agriculture at Hartpury College, and normally resident in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire or Worcestershire.

Margaret Giffen Bursary (Further and Higher Education)
This bursary aims to provide financial support for UK disabled students applying to study an equine focused programme at Hartpury. Primarily this will assist with additional costs associated with your disabilities. The amount is variable depending upon individual applications, and will be given annually for the duration of the course applied for.
To apply, students need to send a written application (in the form of a letter) covering; the programme of study applied for, equestrian experience and qualifications to date, brief description of disability, how financial support would make a difference (100-300 words) and references to support the application.

Graduate Assistant Scheme
The Graduate Teaching Assistant scheme is designed to support high quality postgraduate research and to enable Postgraduate students to contribute to the Associate Faculty teaching and general activities.
Under the scheme, postgraduate students receive a full or partial maintenance grant and/or a waiver of the tuition fee in return for undertaking various support duties. Such duties may include running tutorials, leading seminars, offering assistance with laboratory classes and practical’s, offering assistance on field classes, general administrative support or specific research. The value of the grant/stipend will be proportional to the amount of hours spent on these activities.
The total amount to be awarded in the 2010-2011 academic year is in excess of £150,000.00.

Hartpury Academy of Sport Scholarships
The Hartpury Academy of Sport was created in 2000 to develop students with the potential to become elite athletes in rugby, football, golf, equine sports, netball or modern pentathlon, whilst enabling them to continue with their academic education. Students studying either a further or higher education course can apply.
Players with exceptional talent in these sports may be offered a Sports Academy Scholarship, providing assistance towards accommodation and/or tuition fees. Some players may also be offered a bursary to provide financial assistance towards expenses. To apply, send a letter with a CV and references to the appropriate Sports Academy Director.
Equine Academy
A full scholarship place is offered to support a talented ‘Elite Squad’ young rider and their horse in each of the four disciplines of Dressage, Para Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing. The scholarship package could include Elite Squad support, your academic tuition fees paid for by us, free onsite accommodation for you and free DIY livery stabling for one horse.
Applications for scholarships will be considered from riders who have represented their country within their chosen discipline, either as a team member or individual.
Football Academy
Hartpury offers scholarships and bursaries to support top level football players. These are given on individual merit and assessed at the end of each year.
Golf Academy
To support national and county players in the Golf Academy, Hartpury offers scholarships to those who can manage their time successfully between their academic studies and the commitments of the Golf Academy. These are given on individual merit and assessed at the end of each year. To be considered you will need to have a current handicap of one or less.
Netball Academy
Scholarships may be available for Academy members who show exceptional ability and promise.
Rugby Academy
The Gloucestershire Rugby Academy is a joint venture between Hartpury College and Gloucester Rugby Football Club. The academy offers up to five Rugby Scholarships and Gloucester RFC bursaries in any academic year. Successful candidates will be required to study one of Hartpury’s full time courses at further or higher education, and take part in the academy development programmes run by the rugby academy director. The scholar will also be expected to fulfil all the requirements of the chosen academic course of study to the satisfaction of the course tutor and be directly responsible to the academy director.
The scholarships offer:
- Full or part assistance with college tuition fees
- Full or part assistance with accommodation fees
- Expert coaching and guidance from Academy and Gloucester RFC personnel
- Sports science support services
- A chance to play for Academy and Gloucester RFC teams
Specific Gloucester Rugby Football Club bursaries will be offered in addition to scholarships to those players who have been identified as having exceptional talent and future potential and these offer:
- Financial assistance towards expenses
- Training, playing and coaching with Gloucester RFC
- Gloucester RFC special privileges
In order to qualify applicants must possess:
- A proven track record in Rugby
- A desire to develop themselves as individuals and players as part of Hartpury College and the Rugby Academy
- A commitment to achieve relevant educational qualifications
Awards For Non-EU Students
Bursaries valued at £2,000 (for degree courses) and £1,000 (for BTEC courses) represents a reduction in tuition fees. These awards are open to students from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
