Women's
Rugby
Since the formation of the Rugby Football Union Women (RFUW) in 1983, the game has undergone phenomenal growth, both domestically and internationally. In the UK today, leagues are successfully run at all levels; starting at junior, progressing through to the U20s levels and leading onto senior. High profile competitions include the Home Nations, the Six Nations, the European 7s and the 2009 Rugby World Cup 7s.
This pilot AASE scheme has been designed in partnership with the RFUW and is supported by Gloucester Rugby to develop talented young female rugby players, providing them with the best chance possible to become selected to represent their country at senior level while also gaining important academic qualifications.
The timetabling of training and lectures has been designed to enable AASE players to gain maximum benefit from the facilities available at Hartpury, which are utilised for all of Gloucester’s training operations.
As a Women’s Rugby AASE athlete, you will not only develop through technical skills, tactical knowledge and physical
conditioning, but also gain an all-round knowledge of the game, the club and what it takes to become an elite women’s rugby player.
You will receive between 16 and 20 hours of individual development a week. This will be a combination of weight
training, speed training, skill development and analysis, game time, conditioning and structured rugby sessions.
