Business and Management

Hartpury College is committed to working with employers to meet their needs in a constantly changing business environment.

Business & Management has grown rapidly from a department with 60 employee learners in 2007 to over 350 undertaking NVQs in 2009/10 from over 85 organisations. It has been closely involved in delivering training in collaboration with Gloucestershire Constabulary’s People First programme to police staff as well as to a wide range of other local businesses ranging in size from multinationals to start-ups and diversifications. At the same time, it has added to its constantly expanding range of short course and workshops, which draw up the very diverse range of expertise of its Trainer-Consultants. This allows the department’s leader, Jane Poole, to allocate knowledgeable and relevantly experienced staff whether the need is an apprentice undertaking Level 2 in Business Administration or a quoted company director undertaking a Level 4 qualification or workshop.

The Business & Management Department delivers a broad range of courses suitable for all organisations. In addition, it has a particular expertise related to rural businesses. Most of the courses offered are modular, which enable businesses to choose the package that suits them best from programmes in leadership, management, customer service, administration and business start-up. Options  range from one day practical workshops to gain knowledge (e.g. presentations) or specific tools (PowerPoint) through general short courses (team-leading) or functional short courses (negotiation) to full qualifications and a range of levels to match job profiles. The department works closely with individuals or in designing specific programmes for larger organisations blending training with consultancy.
