HE Veterinary Nursing
Programmes
At Hartpury College we offer a range of courses, catering for a wide range of students, who are able to specialize in either equine or small animal. All of our courses are run in conjunction with the professional body the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and range from those aimed at 16 – 18 years to full time higher education Degree students.
To undertake these vocationally-based courses along with the standard entry criteria you need to already have gained at least 2- 4 weeks work experience within a veterinary practice and have a sound understanding of the role of a veterinary nurse. All applicants are also interviewed, allowing us to fully discuss the intricacies of the Veterinary Nursing qualifications – it is more complicated than most qualifications as you will leave with the qualification AND the ability to practice as a Veterinary Nurse. The Veterinary Surgeons Act permits vets to only delegate a specified range of care and treatments to qualified veterinary nurses who are listed by the RCVS. Registered Veterinary Nurses may use the postnominal letters ‘VN’ and/or ‘EVN’, ‘RVN’, ‘REVN’ and are in much demand by progressive veterinary practices. For your own career progression and the efficient running of your practice, it really makes sense to gain your qualifications.
