As part of the commitment to supporting postgraduate study, the Associate Faculty offers a number of Graduate Assistantship positions (GA’s) each year. The Graduate Assistant scheme is designed to support high quality postgraduate research and to enable postgraduate students to contribute to the Associate Faculty teaching and general activities.
The Hartpury Graduate Assistantship (GA) Scheme has been developed to make postgraduate study affordable and to provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience to compliment & enhance their academic study. Roles are available in a number of areas of the Associate Faculty and recently these have included The Sports Academy, Marketing, International Office, Laboratories, Learning Resource Centre, Equine Therapy & Equine Event Centre.
Particular roles will be allocated to individual Graduate Assistants following their appointment however when allocating roles to Graduate Assistants the Associate Faculty will, where possible, take account of personal preferences and interests.
How the Scheme Works
Graduate Assistant places are limited and will be awarded on merit to applicants who have received an offer for a full time postgraduate programme of study at Hartpury.
In offering places on the scheme, we will take into consideration your previous academic achievements, any additional experience and interests and your interview.
Offers under this scheme fall into two categories:
Grant/Stipend – In return for undertaking your allocated role within the Associate Faculty, you will receive a grant/stipend payment. GAs are required to undertake approximately 385 hours of duties (equivalent to a maximum of 11 hours per week). Therefore the maximum value of the stipend awarded for undertaking these duties is currently £3053.
Bursary – In addition to the above grant, a limited number of exceptional GA applicants will also be offered a bursary equivalent to one third fee waiver from the current tuition fee.
NB: Bursaries can only be awarded to successful GA candidates in addition to their Grant/Stipend and cannot be given alone.
Students are required to undertake their GA duties alongside their academic study, and hours of work may be variable and include work before 9.00am, after 5.00pm and at weekends in line with the specific nature of the role.
