Dog Grooming For Beginners

Course Objectives

This is an 8 week, evening course and is aimed at teaching the basics of grooming out, bathing, drying, de-matting, ear and nail care and an introduction to trimming.

The course is suitable for those considering dog grooming as a career and is a useful insight into the industry.  It is also suitable for kennel staff or pet sitters wishing to offer a tidy up service and for pet owners who would like to care for their own pet’s coat.

The student will get an introduction into basic scissoring techniques.  We will show you professional techniques for bathing and drying, removing knots and tangles and how to tidy feet and furnishings.

Additional Information

Students are not required to supply a dog on the first evening.  Thereafter each student is responsible for supplying their dog models.  The best dogs for this course are, long double coated, matted dogs (i.e. German Shepherds, Collies, Retrievers, small terrier breeds are not suitable for this course).  Owners are reminded that their dogs are their own responsibility. 

Students must wear suitable light clothing and footwear. The grooming room can get very warm, so students may like to bring some refreshment.

 Students may like to bring a digital camera to enable you to build up a portfolio.   

In order to receive a certificate, all students will need to complete a workbook (home study), practical assessments, supply the correct type of dogs for the course and have a minimum of 80% attendance.
