Dog Grooming Intermediate Course

Course Objectives

This course is aimed at those wishing to further their experience.  You will learn to groom common breeds of dogs and is an ideal course for those thinking of setting up in business.

This course includes a starter kit of 3 pairs of scissors, brushes, comb, de-matters, and nail clippers. (An additional charge of £72.00 applies for left handed scissors).

  • Clipping techniques and basic pet trims
  • Pet grooming styles, what blade to use and how to choose
  • Working with snap-on-attachments
  • Sanitation and sterilization
  • Rough clipping and hygiene clipping
  • Parasites, diseases, vaccinations and conditions of the dog
  • Common skin problems
  • Basic anatomy
  • Refresher Health & Safety, Personal Protective Equipment

By the end of this course students should have a basic grounding in the use of clippers and be able to groom such breeds as Spaniels and long haired breeds (Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, and Tibetan Terriers) in a basic pet trim.  The basic breeds and techniques will be repeatedly practiced.  It is recommended that students who wish to improve their skills, speed and experience return to complete the advanced dog grooming course.

Entry Qualifications

Students must have completed the Dog Grooming for Beginners course.

Additional Information

Students are not required to bring a dog on the first session.

Students must wear suitable clothing and footwear.  Students might like to bring a digital camera to enable them to build up a portfolio.  The grooming room can get very warm so you may like to bring some refreshment.

Students are advised that they are responsible for providing their own Dog models.

  • Crossbreeds

In order to gain a certificate students are required complete a workbook (home study), complete practical assessments, have a minimum of 80% attendance and provide the breeds specified.
