Introduction to Beekeeping

The course

This 2 day course provides a general introduction for those who would like to know more about bees and beekeeping. Students will be given the basic theoretical and practical instruction to enable them to manage a small colony of bees during its initial year

Areas of Study:

  • An introduction to many different types of bee and wasp and their life cycles
  • The life of a feral / managed honeybee colony over the period of a year
  • The requirements for the siting of colonies whether in the garden or in the country
  • The correct assembly of a National hive together with the frames for both brood box and honey super
  • The spacing within the hives and how to obtain them
  • The use of Queen excluders and crown boards
  • The feeding of colonies
  • An outline of the life cycle of Queen, Worker and Drone

None.

Additional Information:

Beekeeping protective suits are available to hire at £6 per course, please advise us at the time of booking. Wellington boots are recommended. Please bring a notepad and pen.
