BHS Stage 2 Horse Knowledge and Care
Preparation
The course
This course is designed to be taken either as a revision course for candidates wishing to take the BHS Stage 2 Horse Knowledge & Care examination or for students who simply wish to improve their knowledge.
This course will cover the requirements and standards of BHS Stage 2 Horse Knowledge & Care, both in theory and practice. These courses will not include riding.
There will be no assessment at the end of this course

- Grooming including plaiting
- Rugging & Bandaging
- Watering and feeding
- Saddlery
- Stable Design
- Rugs and rugging up
- Shoeing problems
- Fittening
- Horse Health
- Clipping and trimming
- Basic anatomy and physiology
- Horse Behaviour
- Grassland Care
Entry qualifications:
Candidates must be physically fit in order to carry out yard and fieldwork efficiently without undue stress.
Additional Information:
Students are required to bring a riding hat to current BSI standards and appropriate warm, wet weather clothing and footwear. You may also like to bring a notepad and pen.
