Clipping, Trimming and Plaiting

The course

Everything you ever wanted to know about clipping horses but never had the opportunity or the courage to ‘have a go’! On this course, you will learn why horses need clipping, safety measures, clothing and preparation for clipping and how to clip. You will clip a horse.You will also learn how to trim and plait up a horse.

Areas of Study:

  • Introduction to the course
  • Theory – Why it is necessary to clip, when to clip, types of clip, safety issues
  • Practical – The clippers – how to handle, care for, introduce to the horse, safety issues
  • Practical – demonstration of how to clip
  • Practical – clipping a variety of horses under supervision
  • Trimming and plaiting

Entry qualifications:

None.

Additional Information:

Students are required to bring warm, wet weather clothing, overalls (if possible) or old clothes, gloves, riding hat to current BSI standards, notebook, pen, packed lunch, suitable drinks and stout shoes or boots.
