Emergency First Aid for the equine industry

The course

This course has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of those involved in the equine industry including instructors, fence judges, competitors for example.

This course meets the requirements of the new Foundation course that the Health and Safety Executive is recommending under the new structure for first aid in the UK.

Potential candidates should note that this 1 day Emergency First Aid course does not satisfy the requirements for the BHSPTC.  Candidates requiring a first aid qualification for BHSPTC should instead enrol for the three day First Aid at Work course.

Areas of Study:

  • Understanding the role of the first aider
  • Understanding the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations
  • Managing a first aid incident such as kicking, crushing, falling whilst riding.
  • CPR – 2005 Guidelines
  • Dealing with an unconscious casualty
  • Dealing with casualties suffering from:
    • Heart attacks
    • Seizures
    • Bleeding & Wounds
    • Shock
    • Choking
    • Minor injuries
  • Additional optional contents can be:
    • Dealing with burns
    • Dealing with fractures

Footnote: 2008 HSE intend to change First Aid training and to renew annually

None.

Assessment is continuous by the trainer.
