Overview
This is an experienced operator’s course leading towards the NPTC Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Use – Unit CS32. This is an intensive course spent entirely off site in woodland around the county. The location will be advised in advance. Because of the nature of this course students wishing to book must have their own transport and be experienced operators, please see Entry Qualification.
The course covers:
- Felling trees with a diameter between 380mm – 760mm (15-30”) i.e. 1-2 times guide bar length
- Branch removal techniques
- Boring techniques
- Cross cutting whole tree lengths
- Safe operation of hand winches
- Take down of hung up trees using hand winches

Entry Qualifications:
Students must hold NPTC Units CS30 and CS31 and be an experienced operator.
Additional Information:
The location will be advised via the trainer prior to the start of the course. You will be required to make your own way there, so please provide your own transport and ensure that you have an date-to-date road map for your convenience. Students may use their own protective clothing and serviceable chainsaw as long as they comply with safety standards. Students must bring proof of previous certification (NPTC Units CS30 and CS31), packed lunch and suitable drinks. Please note, attendance on the course does not automatically achieve the Certificate of Competence – assessments will take place on a separate day which will be arranged via the course tutor. Price includes NPTC assessment and registration fees.
