The Amenity Horticulture (Nursery) course is aimed at people working in a plant nursery environment where plants are propagated and grown on for sale. Throughout the course you will gain practical skills and knowledge relating to the production of ornamental plants, including the control of environmental conditions to maximise plant growth. Areas of study may include preparing growing media, collecting and preparing material for propagation, propagating plants from seed, controlling environmental conditions to maximise growth and despatching plants to customers. You will also be able to meet and link with others within the nursery industry, enabling you to share your experiences, exchange ideas and broaden your understanding of horticultural developments.
Opportunities to achieve certificates of competence in a range of areas relevant to your work are also available. For example: The Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 requires anyone who uses pesticides in the course of their business or employment to have received adequate instruction and guidance in the safe, efficient and humane use of pesticides. Therefore we offer the Safe Use of Pesticide Certificate of Competence - (Pesticide Training - PA1 & PA6) within your Apprenticeship.
