A
levels
Studying A levels at Hartpury College is an exciting and challenging opportunity. We offer a comprehensive range of A level subjects, strengthened by an excellent and varied enrichment programme. All of this is offered in the beautiful setting of a higher education campus – a unique experience within Gloucestershire. Students truly experience a transition between school and university life.
You, as the student, are firmly placed at the centre of everything that we do. Your journey with us starts now, from when you discuss with us what you would like to achieve. Timetables are often tailor made to meet each of our students’ individual requirements. We offer a caring, supportive environment within which to work and grow into an independent learner, ready for higher education and employment.
The range of subjects that we offer to you is in response to your interests and our knowledge of the subjects and skills that students need in order to progress into higher education and employment. We are flexible in our approach and will add new subjects when necessary. We welcome the opportunity to discuss your interests at interview. We believe learning needs to take place beyond the classroom, so our notes from lectures are hosted on our virtual learning environment, as well as a wide range of support material. This allows students to access resources outside of lecture time. We also organise regular subject specific study visits to reinforce the theory studied in class.
Our A level enrichment programme is unrivalled in particular for sport. We offer you the opportunity to train and compete at the very highest level in one of our seven elite sports academies. Our students have a proven track record of winning at a national level, as well as having the opportunity to represent their country in their chosen sport. Our pre-vet programme is unique nationwide and offers students the crucial work experience and subject knowledge needed when applying to study veterinary science at university. The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, Young Enterprise, Astronomy Club, Extended Project Qualification, Debating Society and Sports Coaching Awards are some of the enrichment opportunities that are available to all.
Many of our students live on site, with a great proportion living away from home for the first time. We offer excellent pastoral care and follow a comprehensive tutorial programme. Our tutor groups are deliberately designed to be small, so that your tutor has the time to support and guide you through the two years that you are with us. We regularly enrich your timetable with guest speaker sessions, as well as community based activities.
We follow a comprehensive academic monitoring process, which involves tracking your progress throughout the year. Student review evenings, reports and parents’ evenings all play a part in ensuring that you are academically successful. Most of our students progress to university, however, we also support students who are aiming for employment, entry to the forces, as well as securing professional sports contracts.
