Queen Rearing

The course

The aim of this 1 day course is to allow small and large-scale beekeepers to produce Queens from selected stocks, enabling them to select and improve their colony

Students will be shown various methods of harvesting eggs/larvae from the selected colonies, the production of Queens from those selected eggs/larvae, some methods for the subsequent mating of those Queens and introduction into production colonies.

Entry qualifications:

Ideally students should have attended the Introduction to Beekeeping course or its equivalent or have experience of managing a colony of honey bees.

Additional Information:

Beekeeping protective suits are available to hire at £6 per course, please advise us at the time of booking. Wellington boots are recommended. Please bring a notepad and pen.
