BHS Stage 1 Riding
Preparation
The course
This course is designed to be taken either as a revision course for candidates wishing to take the BHS Stage 1 Riding examination, or for students who simply wish to improve their riding.
The course will cover the requirements and standards of BHS Stage 1 in Riding.
There will be no assessment at the end of this course.
Areas of Study:
The course includes:
- Correct leading in hand at walk and trot
- Basic riding position
- Understanding and the correct use of the Natural Aids
- Riding circles
- Work without stirrups
- Light seat
- Trotting poles
- Riding outside
Entry qualifications:
Candidates must be physically fit in order to carry out the selected tasks and topics without undue stress and strain. The first session will be an assessment where candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to ride a quiet, experienced horse or pony in an enclosed space.
Additional Information:
Students are required to wear a properly well-fitted hat to current BSI or Euro standard. A body protector is strongly recommended and is compulsory for any jumping.
