Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue

Overview:

This is a five-day course leading towards NPTC certificate in Climbing Trees and Aerial Rescue and covers NPTC Unit CS38. The course covers:

  • Introduction to Tree climbing
  • Safety regulations and requirements in relation to Tree climbing
  • Protective clothing - HSE standards, suitable types
  • Tree climbing equipment - BS standards, routine maintenance, inspection and storage
  • Identification of Tree climbing hazards, both in and around the Tree
  • Use of ladders, climbing rope and harness to achieve safe working positions in Tree
  • Different types of climbing system - direct stropping techniques, knots, prussic loop, etc.

 Entry Qualifications:

 None.

 Additional Information:

Students must wear their own outdoor clothing and ideally leather chainsaw boots with a heel, 2 passport sized photos, pen and notepad, packed lunch and suitable drinks. All climbing equipment will be provided.

Climbing equipment provided includes:

  • Tree climbing harness
  • Minimum of 5 three-way karabiners
  • Tree climbing ropes
  • 3 prussik loops

 Please note, attendance on this course does not automatically achieve the Certificate of Competence - assessment will take place on a separate day which will be arranged via the course tutor. Price includes use of equipment, NPTC assessment and registration fees.

This course takes place at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester
