What I did on my work placement: I spent my sandwich year working on the yard at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre. I worked so hard that by the time I finished my placement they couldn’t get rid of me! Not only did I learn a lot of hands-on skills and became twice as good a rider, I also worked my way up to yard supervisor and instructor, which I carried on with after my placement. Through this, I also got the chance to experience a completely new world as a groom for a local polo team, travelling all around the country to games.
Career ambitions: I’ve now gained a position at a riding school in Lusaka where I’m helping to teach locals how to be grooms and supporting orphan children to ride. I’m hoping this is just the start of my international travels. I’d love to work with polo teams in Australia and potentially to teach in India, Japan, Singapore, Dubai and Europe and hopefully to lead treks in Canada and America!
