The department of sport comprises research groups in ‘Applied Sport Performance’ and ‘Coaching Pedagogy’, with a number of staff also undertaking learning and teaching research. The common theme within these diverse areas of interest is the enhancement of performance of; athletes, coaches, the general population, teaching staff and students.
All research activity within the department either directly or indirectly informs the curriculum, either through research that directly informs curriculum design (e.g. pedagogic research into first-year transition) or knowledge creation that informs curriculum content (e.g. research into mental toughness directly informing coaching curriculum content).
All staff are actively involved in research and knowledge exchange either as researchers or practitioners. Because staff are actively involved in knowledge exchange within the areas in which they teach, the curriculum is informed by current practice.
