Pre-medicine enrichment programme

The Pre-Medicine enrichment programme is designed for A Level students with an interest in applying to study medicine or degrees allied to medicine.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge about disease and how the human body functions.

As well as preparing you for applying for and being successful in an interview at Medical School, this programme will provide you with the fundamentals skills and knowledge for a career in medicine or professions allied to medicine, such as biomedical science, medical research, physiotherapy and nursing.

Topics covered include BMAT and UKCAT tests, applying for Medical School, medical research and medical ethics, as well as talks from medical doctors on Medical School interviews, medical career structures and pathways and general practice. You will also develop debating and decision-making skills crucial to a medical career.

Hands-on experience includes regular dissection sessions, as well as work experience, with the programme culminating in a trip to Cardiff University Medical School’s research laboratories.

Students on this programme will complete an Extended Project Qualification in a topic of their choice, which will boost their UCAS tariff score.

Please note though that spaces on this programme are limited and you need to consider carefully how you will balance the additional hours of guided and independent learning around studying for your A Levels.
