Hartpury College

Foundation Studies

If you are aged between 16 and 18 years, Foundation Studies offers practical land-based subjects to help you develop your personal and social skills.

Studying a practical course that includes units in agriculture, small animal care, horse care, horticulture and woodwork, you’ll spend a large proportion of your time undertaking practical tasks on the Hartpury College estate. On successful completion you receive a Diploma in Skills for Working Life at Entry Level Three. The Foundation Studies course also includes a life skills qualification, an employability skills course to help you to prepare a CV, develop your interview technique and explore different opportunities for work.

In addition, you’ll work towards functional skills qualifications in maths, English and ICT. Facilities include:

  • Wide range of small animals
  • Farm animals including sheep, goats and chickens
  • Access to a commercial dairy unit and college estate
  • Equine yard
  • Raised beds and polytunnels
  • Workshops
