Level 3 Extended Diploma Outdoor Adventure

Course Overview

If you have a passion for the outdoors and want to work in sport and outdoor adventure, then this course can help open the door to your dream career, with 100% of Outdoor Adventure students going on to further study or employment after completing their course.

What you'll learn

You will study and develop practical skills in a variety of outdoor sports and learn about leading outdoor and adventure activities and gaining expedition experience, assessing risk, environmental education, leadership and anatomy and physiology.

You will also have the opportunity to gain professional qualifications during your course. These include National Governing Body awards from the Royal Yachting Association, British Canoe Union, National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme and National Navigation Awards.

Extra-curricular trips include a visit to the Outdoor Show, a snowsports trip and windsurfing and sailing at coastal locations. We also use our strong links with local schools to enable you to deliver a range of outdoor activities to children and young people. Students in year two of the Level 3 programme also have the opportunity to undertake a paid work placement with an outdoor adventure company in the UK or Europe.

Hartpury is in a central location, ideally situated to take advantage of the Forest of Dean, Malvern Hills and the River Wye and Severn for a range of outdoor activities. We work with businesses locally and regionally to give you a raft of practical experience to boost your skills and your CV.

Our Outdoor Adventure students also have access to our exceptional facilities on site such as the cardio gym, power gym and the performance analysis suite, with the bonus of our 360-hectare estate as an outdoor classroom.

Entry Requirements

GCSE

Five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include English Language and Mathematics.

Additional

There is an additional charge of £200 to pay for National Governing Body registrations, log books and certificates. Any unused monies will be refunded after completion of the course.

Due to the practical and physical nature of this course you are strongly encouraged to consider whether it is right for you.

In Brief

2 Years

Tuition fees

Students under 19 on 31 August 2016 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free.

Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees.  We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 qualification or level 3 qualification.

Students aged 24 and over.  You may need to pay for your course.

Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.

When should I apply

We welcome applications for September 2016 entry from October 2015 onwards. You do not have to wait for your GCSE results.
