Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (Replacement for DTLLS)
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It may be possible for those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers to also complete this qualification. All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 100 hours of teaching practice.
Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will take a practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. They will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice.
Through a personal and professional development portfolio to cover each module, including evidence of teaching practice assessed through a minimum of 8 observations, reflective reviews and assignments.
The qualification allows candidates to progress into employment as teachers/trainers or to other professional recognition or specialist teaching qualifications. Those wishing to go into teaching employment can work towards QTLS status.
- A level 3 qualification in their vocational area
- A Level 2 qualification in English Language and a Level 1 qualification in Maths (teaching professionals should be qualified to Level 2 in Maths)
Applicants with existing teaching/training qualifications may be exempt from some parts of the programme.

Year 1: Delivered on Tuesdays from 4.00-7.00pm for 40 weeks during term time from 27th September 2016.
Year 2: To be agreed.
*At the end of the first year students can leave with a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training if they don’t wish to progress to year 2, so long as they have successfully completed all course requirements.
