Course Overview

If you have a passion for outdoor sports and have a desire to work in sport and outdoor adventure, then this course is a great introduction for your career.

You will study and develop practical skills in a variety of outdoor sports and learn about subjects such as fitness testing and training, outdoor and adventurous activities, anatomy and physiology for sport, injury in sport, leading outdoor and adventurous activities and expedition experience. There will also be overnight expeditions.

The course is run by industry specialists who have and worked in various specialist roles in the sector and who are also assessors for National Governing Body Awards.

Hartpury is in a central location, ideally situated to take advantage of the Forest of Dean, Malvern Hills and the River Wye and Severn for a range of outdoor activities

Entry Requirements


A minimum of two GCSEs at grade D or above.


Due to the practical and physical nature of this course you are strongly encouraged to consider whether it is right for you.

Tuition fees

Students under 19 on 31 August 2016 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free.

Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees.  We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 qualification or level 3 qualification.  Please visit this page for more information.

Students aged 24 and over.  You may need to pay for your course.

Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.

When should I apply

We welcome applications for September 2016 entry from October 2015 onwards. You do not have to wait for your GCSE results.
