Level 2 Diploma Sport (Performance)

Course Overview

If you have a strong interest and sport and want to gain a sound knowledge and understanding of the sports and fitness industries, then this course is perfect for you.

Running three days a week, the course gives students the chance to focus on a specialist sport, either golf, rugby or football, or for those with a general sporting interest, the chance to take part in in practical sessions covering a wide variety of sports.

Practical sessions form an important aspect of the course, enabling you to develop skills that are needed to work in leisure centres, activity centres, sports retail outlets and gyms. Some of the subjects you will study include anatomy and physiology for sport, nutrition for sports performance, exercise and fitness instruction, planning and leading sports activities and practical sport.

There is also the opportunity to take part in team matches held on a Wednesday, subject to a successful trial.

Tuition fees

Students under 19 on 31 August 2016 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free.

Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees. We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 qualification or level 3 qualification. Please visit this page for more information.

Students aged 24 and over. You may need to pay for your course, please visit this page for more information on 24+ loans.

Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.

When should I apply

We welcome applications for September 2016 entry from October 2015 onwards. You do not have to wait for your GCSE results.

Career Opportunities

Once you have successfully completed this course, you may be able to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Outdoor Adventure, and have the opportunity to take part in a fully paid work placement with an outdoor adventure company.
