Level 3 Extended Diploma Physical Education and Coaching
If you want to pursue a career in the coaching or teaching industries or are planning to progress on to a higher education sports degree, this Extended Diploma is aimed at you.
In your first year, you will complete a ten week coaching placement at a local primary school where you will deliver physical education lessons to pupils of all ages. In year two, you are then able to specialise in either Primary or Secondary teaching in addition to working with students with special educational needs.
You will learn through a mix of theory based and practical sessions and will also have significant amount of leadership/coaching work, both voluntary and as part of your academic programme.
In addition to the schools coaching placement, you have the opportunity to volunteer weekly in a local primary school and we have the contacts to supply you with as much voluntary leadership as you wish. This could involve delivery in after school clubs or could be an additional coaching placement on your independent study day.

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include mathematics and English language
Students under 19 on 31 August 2016 are free (full time courses only). Examination fees for main qualifications are also free.
Students aged 19 to 23 may need to pay tuition fees. We may be able to waive your fees if you are unemployed and receiving Jobseekers Allowance, studying your first full level 2 qualification or level 3 qualification. Please visit this page for more information.

Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all students and covers the cost of outside visits, special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.
When should I apply
We welcome applications for September 2016 entry from October 2015 onwards. You do not have to wait for your GCSE results.

Your course will combine classroom study and practical sessions. This includes the ‘Sports Coaching’ and ‘Physical Education’ and the ‘Care of Children and Young People’ modules that are practically based and provide the platform and practice that you need for your schools placement.

You will have a wide variety of progression opportunities on completion of this course. You can progress to university to study sports programmes, usually with the specific goal of becoming either a teacher or a coach.
his course provides a solid grounding in all aspects of leadership and therefore progression in to employment is a realistic alternative to university. Careers in coaching or leadership are popular options and this often involves some voluntary coaching over the summer either in the UK or abroad.
