Hartpury Festival of Dressage 2010

Over whelming number of entries received for the International Festival of Dressage
Once again Hartpury College is delighted to host the International Festival of Dressage which provides five days of outstanding equestrian sport incorporating an FEI CPEDI***, an FEI CDI***, Premier League and a Gala Evening with entertainment and hospitality.

The event is in its sixth year and Hartpury provides a fabulous setting for the most powerful and elegant sports with 11 nationalities for the Para section and 13 for the International CDI.

Sunday, 18th July

PREMIER LEAGUE

The Pony, Junior & Young Team Test 2009 – Supported by Mr. & Mrs. D. Manning  - was the first class of the day in the Hartpury Arena. Winners Lucy Fallen riding Nurejev 65.70, 2nd Olivia Towers riding Merican Donavan 2F 65.50, 3rd Gaby Lucas riding Top star 64.72

The prizes were presented by the judge Elizabeth Day

Fab Horses FEI Intermediate II -  Sponsored for Hartpury Premier League by Fab Horses – Belinda Skipper and  her very striking chestnut gelding Capettov Estervang won this class on a score of 65.18, 2nd Lindsey Jenkins and Senorita 62.81, 3rd Lottie Seal and Dingaan 62.11.

The prizes were presented by Fabian Rammenzweig of Fab Horses

Cushionbed FEI Prix St Georges -  the winners of this very large class were Henrietta Anderson riding Tessa Thorne,s Di Spirito on a score of 69.91 closely followed by Michael Eilberg and Woodlander Rockstar 68.77 and 3rd Anona Young and Di Angelo 67.19

FEI CDI3* INTERNATIONAL DRESSAGE

Lehel FEI CDI Intermediate I Freestyle – Once again Michael Eilberg and Torino out shone their rivals to win this competition on a score of 71.083 in 2nd place Gareth Hughes and Duvie 70.667 and 3rd place Rebecca Hughes and Shining Light 69.750

Devoucoux FEI CDI Grand Prix Special – Congratulations to Steph Croxford and Mr President on their excellent performance finishing on a score of 69.542.  Steph has just started competing again having given birth to her second child two weeks ago.  In 2nd place on a fine score of 68.208 Nikki Crisp and Pasoa and in 3rd place Ellen Birgitte from Norway riding CC Roya 65.167

Saturday, 17th July

SHEARWATER YOUNG HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The brilliant sunshine was perfect for the early morning start for the Shearwater Young Horse Championships.  These competitions for 4 year, 5 year and 6 year olds are hotly contested classes with qualifying rounds held thoroughout the country.

Charlotte Du Jardin was pipped into second place in both the 5 year and 6 year classes.

BD Basic Test 4 year old - 1st  place went to  Michael Eilberg riding  Woodlander Farouche owned by Ferdi Eilberg, Lynne Crowden and Alison Walton on a score of 8.44 closely followed in 2nd place by Andrew Gould riding Dornoeschen 8.30  and 3rd place Henry Boswell riding Breichio 7.98

BD Elementary Young Horse Test 5 year old – 1st place Jane Gregory and Sirus Black III 8.90 2nd Charlotte Du Jardin and G.F. Deville 8.24, 3rd Jacky Stolper on Luciano Pavarotti 8.10

BD Medium Young Horse Test 6 year old  - 1st Gemma Green riding Zolansky 8.34, 2nd Charlotte Du Jardin riding Don Archie 8.26 3rd Calum Whitworth riding Ramazotti III 7.66.

BYDS A Squad Ride Off – The Inter Regionals were held at the College EQ at Keysoe last weekend.  The top 9 A Squad riders qualified to compete here at Hartpury.
The three winners today were Amy Blount -North West Region, Katie Knight - Wales region and Charlie Sawyer - South West region.

FEI CDI3 * INTERNATIONAL DRESSAGE COMPETITION

Dodson & Horrell FEI Intermediate I – this was very competitive class with the top three scoring  over 70%.  Once again Michael Eilberg (GBR) collected the winners sash and rug riding Torino 71.404, 2nd place went to Gareth Hughes (GBR) riding Duvie 70.526 and 3rd place for Norway Siril Helljesen riding Dorina 70.175

GALA EVENING   –   Hartpury Arena

 BYRDS – Supported by Mr. & Mrs David Manning
 The BYRDS A final started off the programme for the Gala Evening.  The winner was Amy Blount  who carried off the 1st prize of a £500 training voucher, rug and jacket,   2nd place Charlie Sawyer,  3rd  place Katie Knight

Shearwater Young Horse Supreme Championship-  4, 5 and 6 year old – the  outstanding champions came in the Arena and three of the judges – Isobel Wessels, Cara Whitham and Karin Kruger then explained to the audience  why they had chosen these horses as the winners.

FEI CDI3* INTERNATIONAL DRESSAGE COMPETITION
Superflex FEI Grand Prix Freestyle – this was a very exciting competition - Richard Davison riding the Countess of Derby’s Hiscox Artemis gave an outstanding performance  to win on a score of 77.150 2nd Michael Eilberg who has enjoyed great success during this Festival finished in 2nd place  on Moet  74.000 and 3rd Henriette Anderson on Louis d’or 73.950

FEI CPEDI3* INTERNATIONAL PARA DRESSGE COMPETITION – Hartpury Arena

FEI Para Freestyle Test Grade II – Once again Jo Pitt (GBR) and Estralita were in great form and were the winners with a score of 77.167, 2nd place went to Eilish Byrne (IRL) riding her own Youri with a score of 71.667.  This was a personal best  for Eilish, who was the sole representative for Ireland at Para Olympics in Beijing said, ‘today has been like a dream come true’, 3rd Natasha Baker (GBR) riding Cabral 70.667.

FEI Para Freestyle Test Grade 1b – An outstanding test by Lee Pearson (GBR) and Gentleman made them the clear winners 81.750,  over his other horse Zion  who finished on a score  77.250, 3rd Ricky Balshaw and Academy Award 76.583.

FEI Para Freestyle Test Grade 1a –  Joint winners - both on an equal score of 76.000 Emma Sheardown (GBR) riding Purdy’s Dream and Anne Dunham(GBR) riding Teddy Edwards and in 3rd place Sophie Christiansen riding Rivaldo of Berkeley  75.083.

FEI Para Freestyle Test Grade III – 1st Deborah Criddle (GBR) riding Pavaroti 73.833, 2nd Simon Laurens riding Ocean Diamond  73.033, 3rd Emma Kent (GBR)  riding Gentle II 69.583

The presentations were made by Katie and Emily Brookes from the Markey Group and three of the judges – Hanneka  Gerritson (NED), Alison King (HKG) and Marc Urban (BEL)

Following the prize giving the Chairman of the British Equestrian Federation, Mr. Keith Taylor presented Mr. David Hunter with a British Equestrian Medal of Honour. 

David was a British Army Cavalry officer for 10 years, serving in Germany, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and the UK as well as spending a year at the National Equestrian Centre in Saumur, France.

In 1993 he left the army and was appointed Director of Equine Welfare for the ILPH, a role he occupied for 5 years.  In 1998 he moved to Fakenham racecourse as Chief executive and Clerk of the Course and in 2002, in addition to his racing duties, he took on the role of Performance Manager to the British Para-Equestrian Dressage Squad. 
David has been instrumental in leading the British Paralympic Dressage Team to unrivalled success. Since his appointment, Great Britain have been unbeaten in all team Championships, winning gold in both Athens and the Bejing Paralympic Games, as well as two World Championships and three European Championships.  In addition to that, riders under his direction have amassed a phenomenal medal haul of 33 golds, 16 silvers and 12 bronzes.
Thanks to David, the British really are – The Best in the World.

Thursday, 15th July

The day started in brilliant sunshine after heavy rain during the night.

FEI CPED13* INTERNATIONAL PARA DRESSAGE COMPETITION Hartpury Arena

FEI Para Individual Championship Test Grade III – Simon Laurens (GBR)  riding Ocean Diamond were the winners on a score of 71.000, 2nd  Deborah Criddle (GBR)  riding Pavaroti 67.889, 3rd Emma Kent (GBR) riding Gentle II 66.333.

FEI Para Individual Championship Test Grades 1b – Once again Lee Pearson (GBR) on Gentleman were the clear winners on a score 76.667, 2nd Ricky Balshaw (GBR) on Academy Award 73.043, 3rd Lee Pearson (GBR) on Zion 72.319.

FEI Para Individual Championship Test Grade 1a – 1st Anne Dunham (GBR) riding Teddy Edwards excelled again to win with a score of 74.833, 2nd Emma Sheardown (GBR) riding Purdy’s Dream 73.043, 3rd Sophie Christiansen (GBR) riding Rivaldo of Berkeley 72.500.

FEI Para Individual Championship Test Grade II – this was a very close competition but the winner was Jo Pitt (GBR) riding Mr Bo Pitt Mrs Hazel Pitt’s Estralita on a score of 72.222 2nd place Erin Orford (GBR) riding Mrs Diana Barley’s Nirvana Pure Indulgence 72.063, 3rd Natasha Baker (GBR) riding Mr & Mrs P Baker and Mrs D. Alder’s Cabral 71.270.

FEI Para Individual Championship Test Grade IV –Sophie Wells (GBR) and Valerius  performed a great test to this competition on a score of 73.548. Sophie leaves tonight to go off to Germany to compete in the Young Riders European Championships.  2nd place was Rosie Andrews(GBR) on Miss Kate Butling’s Tango V and 3rd place Nicky Thompson (GBR) on Welt Santa Cruz 63.763.

PREMIER LEAGUE – Parkway Arena 1 and 2

Nicola Gillespie was in great form winning the first two classes of the day.

Advanced 100 2002 – Twenty six competitors took part.  1st Nicola Gillespie riding Gillespie Equestrian’s Lendel 68.44, 2nd Lisa Marriot riding  S. Penny’s Vanity Fair V 66.41, 3rd Camilla Anderson riding her own U-Rockstar 64.84.

Advanced 106 2002 Sponsored for Hartpury Premier League by Levington Ice  
This was a very close competition with less than  a mark between the first two horses - 1st Nicola Gillespie on Fearless owned by Gillespie Equestrian 65.81, 2nd  Gillian Davison on Hiscox Aliano 65.32, 3rd Liz Winter on Calimero Z 62.74.

FEI Intermediate I 2009 Q Sponsored for Hartpury Premier League by Comfort Zone
1st place went to Rhett Bird riding Donzello 68.07, 2nd place went to Henrietta Anderson riding Tessa Thorne’s Di Spirito 67.81 and 3rd place went to Daniel Watson riding Barbie Marceau 65.18.
The presentations were made by the judge Peter Holler from Germany.

FEI Grand Prix 2009 Q – Sponsored for Hartpury Premier League by Teviot Design
Once again Mary Sharman and Wohler Vanhet Gerenshof produced an excellent  performance to win on a score of 67.59, 2nd Michael Eilberg and Marakov 65.89, 3rd Rhett Bird and Cascade 65.89.
The presentations were made by the judge Cara Whitham from Canada.

This concluded the end of a very successful second day.

Wednesday, 14th July

On the Opening day of this wonderful Festival the British dominated all of the Para competitions. 

FEI CPEDI3* INTERNATIONAL PARA DRESSAGE COMPETITION – kindly sponsored by The  Markey Group.  The Markey Group have worked with Hartpury College for over 11 years through firstly the construction company and latterly by providing off site accommodation which can house the many students enrolling for the College developed under the ‘Move in With Markey’ Brand.

The  FEI Para Team Test Grade IV was the first competition to get this Festival underway in the  Indoor Hartpury Arena.  10 competitors took part and the clear winner was Sophie Wells (GBR) riding Valerius with a score of 70.417.  Sophie has been chosen for the British team to go Young Riders European Championships in Germany.  She was due to compete on Pinochio at Hartpury this weekend but has now had to withdraw as they leave for Germany tomorrow. In 2nd place Angela Lyons (IRL) riding Latino J 65.729, 3rd Rosemary Gaffney (IRL) riding Aldham Milldubloom 65.625.

The FEI Para Team Test Grade III  was won by the well established European, World and Olympic medallist Deborah Criddle (GBR)  on Mr. & Mrs. Criddle’s  Pavaroti with a score of 69.383, 2nd Simon Laurens (GBR) on Ocean Diamond 68.272, 3rd Emma Kent (GBR) on  Gentle II 67.778.

The FEI Para Team Test Grade II  - this competition was won by Erin Orford (GBR) riding Mrs Diana Barley’s Nirvana Pure Indulgence 72.222, 2nd Jo Pitt (GBR) riding Mr & Mrs Pitt’s Estralita 71.587, 3rd Natasha Baker (GBR) riding Mr & Mrs Barker and Mrs D Alder’s Cabral 69.841.

The FEI Para Team Test Grade lb – Lee Pearson (GBR), 9 times Para gold medallist, took first and second place. 1st went to Gentleman on a score of 75.152 and 2nd  Zion 72.273,  3rd went to  Ricky Balshaw (GBR) riding Academy Award, 71.818.

The FEI Para Team Test Grade la – Anne Dunham riding Teddy Edwards took 1st  place with a score of 75.098, 2nd Sophie Christiansen riding Rivaldo of Berkeley 74.706, 3rd Emma Sheardown riding Purdy’s Dream 73.529.

PREMIER LEAGUE
In the outdoor Parkway Arena 1 -  The FEI Prix St. Georges 2009 Q  was the first competition of the day starting at 8.30 a.m.  This was won in fine style by Michael Eilberg riding Woodlander Dornroschen with a score of 71.93, 2nd Lisa Marriott riding Vanity Fair V  67.46, 3rd Sonya Richards riding Balzer 67.28.

The Advanced Medium 85 2009 was won by Gillian Davison riding Hiscox Aliano owned by her and her husband,  Olympic medallist Richard with a score of 74.71, 2nd place went to Zoe Sleigh riding her own Fantastic Light 71.76, 3rd place Anne-Marie Perry riding Feine Dame 69.41.

The Advanced Medium 98 2002 WQ – This was a very close competition with Sarah-Jane Elmslie just taking 1st  place with Wellington Worbaal on a score of 69.47,  equal  2nd place went to Nicola Gillespie riding Fearless 67.89, and Nick Lawson riding Abbey Tiron 67.89.

The Final competition of the day was the NAF FEI Intermediate II 2009 Q – kindly sponsored by NAF. 1st with a score of 67.72 was Mary Sharman riding Wohler Vanhet Gerenshof, who is by the stallion Ragazzo, which is owned by Hartpury College. 2nd Belinda Skipper riding Capettov Estervang  66.32, 3rd Kate Attlee riding Teutone. The prizes were presented by Tracey Lloyd of NAF 66.32.

This concluded the end of a very successful first day.
