The Equine Therapy Centre try out a Haygain hay steamer

Becky James of Haygain recently delivered a Haygain hay steamer to the Centre for staff and horses to try out. As most of our residents have little turnout, we are keen to do all we can to maximize the air quality within the stable environment. Steaming hay has so many advantages over soaking and actually eliminates fungal spores and bacteria rather than simply reducing the rate at which they enter the horse's respiratory system. The horses certainly seem to find steamed hay very palatable and it smells wonderful! Students at Hartpury College will be assisting Haygain with their ongoing research using the unit within the Centre.

Therapy Centre Open Day
Seventy visitors enjoyed the recent Equine Therapy Centre Open Day held on the 25th June, showcasing the full extent of the expertise and facilities available to prospective clients. The day was run as a series of ‘drop-in’ practical demonstration and discussion sessions, thus allowing visitors to learn first hand what the Centre has to offer. Those attending were invited to observe and interact with experts with whom we regularly work, including Osteopath Liz Launder, Physiotherapist Polly Hutson, Farrier Kelvin Lymer, Vet John Campbell of Three Counties Equine Hospital alongside Equine Therapy Centre Manager Kathryn Nankervis. The feedback we received from those attending the day was fantastic and highly positive; thus we hope to run a similar event next year for an even bigger crowd. Watch this space!
