The Mitsubishi Motors Hartpury Horse Trials 2008
RUTH EDGE AND PC WILSON CLAIM WINNING TITLE AT HARTPURY CIC***

Cumbrian event rider Ruth Edge completed the most successful week of her eventing career by claiming the CIC*** at the Mitsubishi Motors Hartpury Horse Trials, with its first prize of a new Mitsubishi Outlander; this followed a win the previous weekend at the British Eventing Open Championship at Gatcombe Park riding Mayhem III.
Ruth’s early ride at Hartpury was Mr Dumbledore. His quick round compensated for three rails down in the show jumping and moved him up into third place.
Ruth comments in Horse and Hound:
“The course walked very well, but having zoomed round on ‘Mr Dumble’, I thought this was going to be quite a big question for ‘PC’, but he came up with all the goods and went all the straight ways. He’s not a speed machine, but fast enough. We’ve only been together since May so I’m still getting to know him.”
The owner of PC Wilson, Susan Kerfoot, must have been delighted to see them take this major championship so early on in their partnership. Ruth led from the start, adding just 12 cross country time penalties to a dressage score of 34.4, to give her a winning margin of 1.6 penalties over Emily Baldwin and Drivetime.
“I really don’t know what I’ve done to deserve a week like this” said a delighted Ruth. “First I win a skiing holiday and now a car – this certainly goes a long way to making up for missing out on going to the Olympics.”
Next years event takes place on 13 – 16 August, where a Mitsubishi Outlander will be on offer again. Our sport is really privileged to have such a generous sponsor as Mitsubishi, who give their support to Horse Trials in such an exciting way.
