Emily Baldwin wins CIC*** and drives off in a Misubishi Outlander

Emily Baldwin stole a march on her peers in the CIC*** on Sunday when she landed the major honours and won the Mitsubishi Outlander motor car first prize in an exciting finish, run in reverse order in the cross country, riding Lord and Lady Harris' Drivetime. They now aim for Blenheim International.
This was the icing on the cake which made up for being beaten by just .2 in last year's event by Ruth Edge - who was fourth this time on Nick of Thyme.
Mary King and Apache Sauce took second,
the only rider in the top six to finish on her
dressage mark of 50.4, with Olympic Bronze
Medallist Kristina Cook and Miners Frolic in third on 52.2. Mary now heads for Burghley, where they were 4th
last year, and Tina goes for Highclere en route
to defend the European Championships title
with the British Team in September.
In the CCI**, Coral Keen and Chain Reaction III in a tight finish won on 44.6 (and was 26th in the 1* on Aphrodisiac) with Rose Bridgwood and Malin Head Clover taking second on 44.8 a whisker away and Ireland's Austin O'Connor in third on 47.4.
Tribute must go to Isabel Djivanovic and Elegrant Grey, 4th after dressage, 2nd after cross country, but a costly four show jumps down dropped her to l7th. Considering she was in a coma in Salisbury Hospital in May and nearly died from a bacterial infection, and doctors did not expect her to ride for three months, this was quite an achievement.
Laura Collett riding Vancouver landed the l* on her dressage score having led from start to finish. Bought as a stallion from Belgium as a 5 year old, "he was a bit green with the crowds but got going in a rhythm and found it easy" she said.
The Irish took 2nd and third, with Camilla Spiers and BT Crew Master fourth throughout on 45.8, currently based with Judy Bradwell here for the past 4 years "which paid off in the dressage" and who did an "awesome cross country".
Ciaran Glynn was "pleased and surprised" to take third on Killossery Harvey (7) on 47.5, jointly owned with his mother and grandmother, who has only had one run this year, has "enormous scope" but likes bucking riders off!
James Adams and the highly talented grey Pebbly Aga Khan, 2nd after dressage and cross country, dropped to fourth after one showjump down, but was very pleased with the result, having led the dressage at Burgie in June, but fell on the cross country.
The Hartpury College team organised an ace event for 320 horses and riders who benefitted from the remarkable facilities, arenas and good cross country courses designed by Eric Winter, and no serious accidents to horse or rider and the weather was good!
The event benefits from Mitsubishi Motors sponsorship and support, and vehicles were in constant use throughout the event. This is the only event in the country to give a free motor car to the winner. Quite a prize!
