This is the ninth year of International Horse Trials here at Hartpury and has established itself as a firm favourite in the eventing calendar attracting the big names including Piggy French, Pippa Funnell, Zara Phillips, Laura Collett, Mark Todd, Lucy Wiegersma, and Blyth Tait. This truly international competition has attracted over 300 entries from 17 nations. This year we are delighted to welcome NAF as our new title sponsor.

The Cross Country and Show jumping phases started at 10.30 a.m. in brilliant sunshine.
The show jumping phase in which the competitors jumped in reverse order of merit proved very exciting and the order changed dramatically. Charlotte Agnew and Pavonita Ts unfortunately had the first fence down so dropped to 2nd place. Georgie Spence had the last fence down so the winner was Laura Collect and Outward Bound owned by Miss Fiona Dowding.
1st Laura Collett and Outward Bound 45.6, 2nd Charlotte Agnew and Pavonita Ts 47.7, 3rd Georgie Spence Millhollow Classic 47.9, 4th Georgie Spence Victory Bay 48.3.
The 1st prize, a beautiful cut glass claret jug was presented by Tracey Lloyd, PR and Marketing Manager of NAF accompanied by the Ground Jury Gillian Makey Harfield and Sue Becavar. Champagne and chocolates were presented to the winning owner. Alex Grinstead received the Dennis Ivan Memorial Trophy for being the highest placed youngest rider. Denis Ivan was a cross country steward at Hartpury Horse Trials for many years and he was also the District Commissioner for the local Ledbury Pony Club. Alex was a student here at Hartpury and is now head lad at Daniel Sibley’s yard in Exeter. The prize for the best shod horse went to Jade Lazenby and Rumex.
Channel Five were here filming Gillian Naysmith and her colleagues from the Horse Boy Foundation as they were enjoying the Event. The programme ‘Celebrity Wish List’ is based on helping small charities and organisations.
Just prior to the CCI* prize giving in the International Arena, the programme presenter Michael Underwood was there to ‘surprise’ Gillian who is the UK ambassador for The Horse Boy Foundation. With a dedicated group of volunteers, she runs equine therapy camps up and down the country for families with autistic children. The therapy aims to calm neurological trauma and promote communication.
The Horse Boy Method was pioneered in the USA by Robert Isaacson but it was Gillian’s own personal journey with her son that convinced her to continue this work throughout the UK.
Gillian and her volunteers also consistently fundraise to help send low income families with children on the Autism spectrum to these camps.
Gillian was presented with a special rosette by the Event Director Janet Plant and was then introduced to the winners of the NaturalintX CCI* Section A.
Sky TV were here filming the CIC*** sections. This programme will capture the highlights of the Event and will be televised at a later date.
