Hartpury added more silverware to the College trophy cabinet when they clinched a national sevens title with some scintillating performances.
Having won the RFU AASE League national title for the seventh successive year with a 39-12 victory over Bicton College in November 2015 to maintain their phenomenal record of being the only team ever to have lifted the trophy, Hartpury completed the double when they scooped the AASE Sevens crown.
Kicking off with a 57-12 win over Ivybridge, Hartpury got off a flying start but their next test proved the stiffest of the day as they came up against old adversaries, Filton College. The team had to show great composure to score with the last play of the game when under pressure against strong opponents to secure a hard-fought 26-24 win.
Next up was a 24-15 victory over Myerscough followed by a comfortable 32-15 success up against Wyggeston College. With the clash against Henley College then postponed due to injuries in their squad, Hartpury finished top of the pile to take the title.
Hartpury College Sport lecturer and coach, Tim Stevenson, said: “This was another fantastic achievement by the lads, who again kept the reputation of Hartpury as strong as ever with another AASE competition success.
“It has been a phenomenal season for our Under-18s, winning their seventh AASE title and then securing another national title success at the Sevens, proving their prowess in both disciplines."
