Hartpury’s helping hand sees graduates grab chance at dream careers

Hartpury are setting students on the path to their dream careers with the most recent Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DHLE) Survey results showing a record 98.6% of graduates are in employment or further study, putting Hartpury among top higher education institutes.

These results demonstrate Hartpury is outperforming top universities, placing them in the top quartile of education providers. The survey, for 2014/15 graduates, reviews universities employment data and states that almost all Hartpury students are now in employment or further education six months after their graduation with 90% stating they felt their time at Hartpury had prepared them ‘well’ or ‘very well’ for their next step.

Of those in employment or further study, 70% are in professional occupations where their qualification was either necessary or helpful in securing their employment. As a specialist institution our graduates have qualifications in Equine, Sport, Animal and Agriculture. Of the leavers that noted their qualification was necessary or gave them an advantage in securing their role, 75% said the subject studied was the most important aspect.

This crop of Hartpury graduates would have reaped the benefits noted in the Quality Assurance Association (QAA) report in 2014. The QAA, an independent body that monitors standards and quality in UK higher education, highlighted many areas of good practice, with a particular focus on Hartpury’s success in preparing students for the world of work and securing their dream job.

The review team were impressed with the involvement of employers in designing and developing a “highly relevant curriculum that reflects the most up-to-date thinking” and the extensive work placement and volunteering opportunities available to students in the UK and overseas.

The outstanding commercial facilities and the major events held at Hartpury also provide students with unique opportunities to work in real-life settings. The quality of this employability support is reflected in the new DHLE data, demonstrating the graduate achievement of Hartpury students is higher than the national average.

Russell Marchant, Hartpury Principal, said: “We’re immensely proud of the experience we offer to students at Hartpury and are always striving to improve the student experience here. It’s great to see those efforts paying off with our highest ever number of degree students studying at Hartpury as well as a record number of those students going on to further study or to pursue great careers in the industries they choose.”
