Weekly student sports round up

The rugby teams racked up impressive wins across the board this week with Hartpury’s BUCS first team taking their revenge for a defeat at Cardiff University earlier in the season, scoring 40 second-half points as they wrapped up a 48-5 win at home in the BUCS South League. The BUCS second team hosted Queen Mary’s firsts in the Premier South B division and won 65-0, while the thirds romped to a 10-try 67-19 win at home to University of South Wales seconds in the Western 2B League.

The Under-18s elite team picked up an emphatic 33-5 win over Cowbridge, the seconds saw off Bishop Wordsworth firsts 27-12 and the thirds triumphed 36-10 over Cirencester firsts.

On the recreational rugby front, the Acorns picked up a thumping 76-0 win over Solihull.

The only rugby team to suffer defeat were the BUCS women’s firsts as they slipped up 32-12 at Aberystwyth in BUCS Western 2B.

There was a mixed bag of results from the football this week but the top teams had emphatic victories.

The BUCS first team won 7-0 at home to Chichester firsts in BUCS Premier South and the Under-18s elite team thumped Exeter College 5-1 at home in the ESFA Under-18s National Cup.

The BUCS thirds lost 3-0 at home to Cardiff in the BUCS Western 2B Premier, while the fourths drew 2-2 with Marjon’s seconds in the BUCS Western 5A.

The Under-19s second team had an impressive 5-3 success at Walsall firsts in the ECFA Cat 2, while Hartpury Under-19s thirds lost 3-1 at home to Coleg Menai firsts in the ECFA Premier Cup and the fourths drew 3-3 with Warwickshire-Henley firsts.

In netball this week, Hartpury’s junior teams were dominant. The firsts had a thumping 57-15 win at Hereford Sixth Form in the AoC Superleague and the seconds won 36-29 in the AoC WM Cat 3B League against Hereford’s seconds away from home.

In the golf, Hartpury’s BUCS team lost 3.5-2.5 at Swansea firsts in the BUCS Western 1A League.

Sports Round-up 02.12.16

There were some mixed fortunes this week, with a shock result for Hartpury’s top rugby players, as well as some commendable performances including a massive victory for the women’s rugby stars and good efforts from two non-academy sporting teams on their first major outing of the season.

Hartpury’s junior football manager Paul Tassell was named 2016’s Sports Champion at the Believe in Gloucester Awards last night after more than a decade of continued success at the college.

Hartpury student Sandy Fotheringham will be hoping to put in a statuesque performance for his dad at next year’s Wild Water Canoe World Championships after the proud father built a 15-foot hay bale replica of him so he can continue making waves in his sport!
