Student sport round up 16.12.15

In the final week of sport before the Christmas break, our Hartpury teams provided some festive cheer with the Girls AASE Rugby team’s win over Filton College the highlight.

The team were the pick of the sporting   scoring eight tries, leading to a victorious 48 – 5 win. Two tries were produced by Annouska Gregovich, who also stood out for her great pace and footwork on the wing. Fly-half Zoe Harrison added eight points with the boot to add to her opening try.In other rugby news, there was a win for the University BUCS third team. They took an outstanding 15 – 10 win over Plymouth first team, in an away game in the BUCS Western 1A League.

In football, there were two strong performances from Hartpury College teams. The Under-19s first team took on the Bath College’s first team at home   in the ECFA Premier League. They secured a fantastic 3 – 0 win with Abdul Ganiyu scoring  twice and George Lamb grabbing the other on his way to a Man of the Match performance.

The Under-19s third team also claimed victory in a home game agains tHereford VI Form. The Hartpury team stole the show, snatching a brilliant 3 – 0 win with Tom Morgan being awarded Man of the Match.

There were some mixed fortunes this week, with a shock result for Hartpury’s top rugby players, as well as some commendable performances including a massive victory for the women’s rugby stars and good efforts from two non-academy sporting teams on their first major outing of the season.

Hartpury’s junior football manager Paul Tassell was named 2016’s Sports Champion at the Believe in Gloucester Awards last night after more than a decade of continued success at the college.

This week our golfers took part in a nail-biting playoff, the home crowd were treated to an all-Hartpury rugby match and our junior footballers posted some impressive scores.

Hartpury’s kayak king Sandy ready to make hay on the wild water after dad’s unusual tribute!

Hartpury student Sandy Fotheringham will be hoping to put in a statuesque performance for his dad at next year’s Wild Water Canoe World Championships after the proud father built a 15-foot hay bale replica of him so he can continue making waves in his sport!
