In another successful week of sport at the college, Hartpury’s golfers put on a fantastic performance in the Intercollegiate Tour at Northants County Golf Club to secure first place in the team round.

They reaped the benefits of their recent warm weather training excursion to the Desert Springs resort in Spain with Joe Harvey, Alex Chalk and Tom Davies all finding themselves in a four-way tie for first place, after shooting a level-par round of 70.

In the rugby, the BUCS first team overpowered Bristol firsts by 24 points in the BUCS Premier South A division, securing a 31-7 win.  The university third XV were also in action against Cardiff thirds and came out of Wales with a 28-5 victory. The Under-18s seconds were away to Henley College in the AoC Premier League and they secured a 100% win rate for all Hartpury rugby teams with a 33-14 win.

Hartpury’s junior football first team produced an excellent performance to thrash Birmingham Met Stourbridge first XI 10-0, and you can read the full match report here. The university first team travelled to Cambridge to take on their firsts, and they took all three points home thanks to a Scott Wilson goal, while the Under-19s second team managed to secure a 5-2 win away at Walford and North Shropshire firsts. The BUCS third team came undone against UWE firsts, succumbing to a 4-0 defeat in BUCS Western 2B. On the recreational front, Hartpury Athletic secured a 1-0 win away at UWE thirds while the Under-19s fourth XI shared the spoils with Hereford Sixth Form in ECFA West Midlands 2C after a 2-2 draw.

The netball first team took on Queen Ethelberga’s College in a friendly and maintained their good form with a 61-47 win while the BUCS firsts took on Cardiff Met fifths in BUCS Western 5B, falling to a 59-21 defeat.

Sports Round-up 02.12.16

There were some mixed fortunes this week, with a shock result for Hartpury’s top rugby players, as well as some commendable performances including a massive victory for the women’s rugby stars and good efforts from two non-academy sporting teams on their first major outing of the season.

Team player Tass is in eleven heaven as Hartpury coach is named Sports Champion

Hartpury’s junior football manager Paul Tassell was named 2016’s Sports Champion at the Believe in Gloucester Awards last night after more than a decade of continued success at the college.

Hartpury’s kayak king Sandy ready to make hay on the wild water after dad’s unusual tribute!

Hartpury student Sandy Fotheringham will be hoping to put in a statuesque performance for his dad at next year’s Wild Water Canoe World Championships after the proud father built a 15-foot hay bale replica of him so he can continue making waves in his sport!
