Four current students – Alec Clarey, Callum O’Connell, Alex O’Meara and George Boulton - are joined by Hartpury RFC duo Ruaridh McConnochie and Joe Dancer in the squad announced today.
They will now be hoping to make the starting line-up for the annual England Students’ clash against Portugal on Saturday, January 24th in Lisbon.
Hartpury Sports Business Management graduate Seb Rodwell featured in the clash last year. Sports Performance Foundation degree student Clarey was also picked in the team but a Gloucester Rugby call-up for their LV Cup game against Scarlets denied him the opportunity, while fellow Hartpury student Alex Woodburn was ruled out with injury.
Sports Business Management student O’Connell and Dancer were then picked in the squad for the follow-up clash against France Students along with James Gibbons and Luke Cozens. This is the first England Students call-up for Agriculture student George Boulton and Sports Coaching student Alex O’Meara.
Hartpury director of rugby, Alan Martinovic, said: “It’s fantastic to see the excellent pedigree we have of our players representing England Students continue, with our students again making up the largest single contingent from any university this year. That’s an achievement everyone involved with sport at the college can be hugely proud of.
“It’s also great to see two of Hartpury RFC’s young stars among the picks. All of these players are in cracking form and we wish them every success as they look to secure international honours, joining more than 100 talented Hartpury rugby players to pull on their country’s jersey in the last 10 years.”
