Hartpury helping students stay at the summit with table-topping performance

Hartpury’s BTEC students are celebrating again after another table-topping year which saw students’ grades remain at a consistently high level – results from the Department of Education revealed yesterday.

The tables, which will change in format from next year, show that Hartpury again ranks as the top specialist land-based college in England for its BTEC courses, with the average grade being a Distinction and students making more progress from their starting points than at any similar college.

Benefiting from exceptional teaching and facilities at one of the leading institutions for vocational study nationally, Hartpury students taking BTEC qualifications are achieving significantly higher grades than would have been expected based on their GCSE results.

Hartpury College Vice Principal, Luke Rake, said: “I’m extremely proud of what these results show, but league tables are only part of the story for us. They are important as a benchmark, but nowhere near as important as ensuring every young person here does as well as they possibly can.

“Our students continue to excel across all of our specialist subject areas - in agriculture, equine, animal management and sport – and grades are on the up again. That is testament to the hard work of our students and staff and the continued support of parents.

“It’s not all about helping our students to achieve good grades though; how we support our students to be successful in later life is just as important. When they graduate, we make sure they are equipped to meet life’s challenges and ready to hit the ground running, whether they embark on further study or enter the world of work.”
