Hartpury’s university rugby first XV carried their winning form from last year into 2016 after securing a win over Cardiff Met firsts.

A 34-22 win over their Welsh opponents saw the squad leapfrog Exeter firsts into top place in the BUCS Premier South A League, with the two sides coming up against each other in two weeks’ time.

In other rugby results, the women’s BUCS first team produced a try-frenzy display in a 117-14 win against Marjons firsts while the women’s AASE squad came away victorious in their friendly sevens fixture with Bicton College.

The BUCS seconds and thirds both fell to defeat with the former losing 26-19 to Exeter second XV in the BUCS Premier South B League, while the latter lost out to Southampton firsts in a 39-17 scoreline in the BUCS Western 1A League. The Under-18s fourth team produced a strong defensive display in the A0C League as they beat Worcester Sixth Form firsts 58-0.

Hartpury’s golfers were also in action in round three of the Intercollegiate Tour with Alex Chalk firing a four under par score of 66 to seal a tied for second place finish. The Hartpury A team finished in second and third place in the gross and nett division respectively while the B team managed a fifth and tied for fourth position finish.

The Under-19s football first team maintained their 100% record in the ECFA Premier League with a 2-1 win against Gower Swansea firsts, while the BUCS first team lost to University of South Wales first team by the same scoreline in the BUCS Premier South League.
