International summer school success set to benefit Hartpury

Masters students from all over Europe are expected to attend an international summer school being run this month by Hartpury advisor, Andrew Frapwell.

Andrew, who is currently helping Hartpury in an advisor role for the new Physical Education and School Sport degree, will spend two weeks in Kosovo, from July 1st to 15th at the University of Pristina, running the summer school aimed at final year degree and masters students.

“I hope that this will be a great opportunity not just for myself but for Hartpury as well,” Andrew said.

“Obviously there’s the kudos of being linked with an internationally recognised summer school but also it’s a great opportunity to further the link between Hartpury and the University of Pristina.”

Andrew has previously been involved in a donor project through the EU to help develop the PE curriculum in Kosovo. He is also a national lead in PE in the UK as well as an international consultant in this area of expertise.

The University of Pristina in Kosovo is seeking to build up a knowledge base to help bring its teaching methods and research expertise in line with other leading Western European nations.

Hartpury has been cited as one of the possible bases from which vital information will be shared with Pristina, which currently teaches courses in a range of subjects from economics and law to veterinary, agriculture and sports sciences.

The campus was visited last year by the University of Pristina’s Dean, Dr Sadik Krasniqi, who met Dr Christopher Potter, Associate Dean Teaching, Learning and Scholarship at Hartpury, to discuss how Pristina’s Faculty of Physical Education and Sport department might work with Hartpury and benefit from developing closer links.

As part of the partnership, students from the university will be travelling to the UK to visit at one of Hartpury’s open days before Hartpury lecturers will have a chance to teach on an international masters as part of an exchange programme with the university.
